Overview

Research upon acceleration of electrons simply by plasma ocean will be performed at the laser physics and nonlinear optics group of the University of Twente to build up a new small method for speeding of bad particals. This method of electron velocity requires a powerful ultrashort laser beam pulse to induce a plasma say in the plasma on which the electrons may ”surf” to higher kinetic powers. Therefore , a laser is being developed which should deliver an 1 Joule laser pulse with a duration of 30 fs to generate the demanded 30 TW of optical electric power for creation of the sang wave since required for this kind of electron awaken field speed experiment.

The principle of the laser is founded on chirped pulse amplification; a stretched heart beat is amplified to the required energy, and re-compressed after. This report describes the performed work concerning the design and building of a pre-amplifier and an air compressor. For pre-amplification of the heartbeat a regenerative amplifier can be used, which has been made and characterised. The measured output power of the regenerative amplifier is approximately 3. a few mJ, in the foreseeable future this pulse will be even more amplified by simply two added multipass audio receivers. But as this further amplification is definitely beyond the scope of this master thesis, it will not be cared for in this record. A grating compressor with an efficiency of approximately 70%, recompresses the pre-amplified pulse to a duration of 29 fs with a pulse strength of the compressed pulse of two. 5 mJ.
